Panchmahal (પંચમહાલ) is a district in eastern Gujarat, India, with Godhra as its administrative headquarters. Its name refers to “five mahals,” or historical administrative divisions. The district is known for its agricultural landscape, trading centres and the historic Champaner-Pavagadh area.
Gujarati is widely spoken, and the population includes rural farming communities, tribal communities and urban residents of varied faiths. Agriculture, commerce and manufacturing around Halol support the local economy. The Champaner-Pavagadh Archaeological Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, preserves impressive historic architecture. Pavagadh’s Kalika Mata temple is a major pilgrimage destination, while local fairs and religious festivals contribute to community life.
Common civic concerns include reliable drinking water, irrigation, road maintenance, sanitation and access to healthcare and education. Residents also care about employment, public transport and services in rural and tribal areas. Managing pilgrimage crowds, protecting heritage, addressing industrial pollution and maintaining communal harmony are important priorities across the district.
