Palwal (पलवल) is a district in southern Haryana, India, within the National Capital Region. Its headquarters, Palwal city, lies on the Delhi–Mathura corridor. The district is known for agriculture, transport connections and its association with Mahatma Gandhi, who was arrested at Palwal railway station in 1919.
The population includes farming communities, traders, industrial workers and people commuting to nearby employment centres. Hindi is widely spoken, alongside local Haryanvi and Braj-influenced varieties. Agriculture, small industries, commerce and logistics support the economy. Palwal, Hodal and Hathin are important towns. Gandhi Seva Ashram is a notable landmark commemorating the district’s connection to the independence movement.
Common civic concerns include reliable drinking water, drainage, sanitation and waste collection. Residents also care about road maintenance, traffic safety, public transport, healthcare and schools. Across rural areas, irrigation, farm livelihoods and access to services remain important, while expanding settlements raise questions about planned development and environmental protection.
