North and Middle Andaman (उत्तर और मध्य अंडमान) is a district in India’s Andaman and Nicobar Islands, with its administrative headquarters at Mayabunder. It covers much of the northern and central Andaman island chain and is known for tropical forests, coastal settlements, beaches and rich marine biodiversity.
Residents come from varied linguistic and cultural backgrounds, alongside Indigenous communities with distinct traditions and protected rights. Agriculture, fishing, government services, small businesses and tourism support local livelihoods. Diglipur, Mayabunder and Rangat are important population centres. Notable natural attractions include Saddle Peak, Ross and Smith Islands, and mangrove-lined stretches of coast.
Common civic concerns include reliable ferry and road connections, healthcare access, schools, drinking water, electricity and telecommunications. Residents also have a stake in disaster preparedness, coastal protection and waste management. Balancing livelihood opportunities and tourism with forest conservation, marine protection and Indigenous rights remains important to the district’s future.
