Nashik (नाशिक) is a district in northwestern Maharashtra, India, with its headquarters in Nashik city. It stretches from the Western Ghats to the drier Deccan plateau and is known for vineyards, grape farming, onion cultivation and important Hindu pilgrimage sites. The Godavari River rises near Trimbakeshwar in the district.
Marathi is the main language, and tribal communities contribute to the district’s cultural diversity, especially in its western areas. Farming, food processing, winemaking and manufacturing support the economy. Nashik city’s Panchavati area, Trimbakeshwar temple and the ancient Pandavleni caves are prominent landmarks. The Nashik–Trimbakeshwar Kumbh Mela brings large numbers of pilgrims and visitors.
Common civic concerns include dependable water supplies, irrigation, crop prices and access to agricultural markets. Residents also care about roads, public transport, sanitation, healthcare and education. River pollution, urban growth, pilgrimage crowd management and access to services in remote tribal villages are recurring priorities.
