Nandurbar (नंदुरबार) is a district in northwestern Maharashtra, India, bordering Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh. Its landscape includes the Satpura hills, river valleys and agricultural plains. The district headquarters is Nandurbar town. The area is known for its large Adivasi population, distinctive cultural traditions and predominantly rural character.
Bhil and Pawara communities are an important part of local society, alongside other communities. Marathi, regional languages and Adivasi languages reflect the district’s diversity. Farming, agricultural labour and local trade support many households, with cotton, maize and other crops grown across the district. Toranmal, a hill destination in the Satpuras, and Prakasha, known for its temples, are notable places.
Common civic priorities include reliable drinking water, irrigation, roads and transport to remote settlements. Access to healthcare, nutrition, schools and livelihood opportunities is especially important in hill areas. Forest rights, support for farmers, seasonal migration and effective delivery of public services also shape local discussions.
