Mungeli (मुंगेली) is a district in Chhattisgarh, India, with its headquarters in Mungeli town. Formed from Bilaspur district in 2012, it includes agricultural plains and forested areas toward the Maikal hills. It is known for rice cultivation, rural markets and its connections to the wider Bilaspur region.
Chhattisgarhi and Hindi are widely spoken, and village festivals, folk traditions and weekly markets shape community life. Farming, agricultural trade, small businesses and public services support the economy. Madku Dweep, associated with archaeological remains and temples, and the historic temple at Setganga are notable heritage destinations. The district also includes part of the Achanakmar Tiger Reserve landscape.
Common civic concerns include dependable irrigation, fair crop prices, road maintenance and access to healthcare and education. Residents also have a stake in reliable drinking water, sanitation and public transport. In forest-adjacent communities, forest access, livelihoods, wildlife conservation and human–wildlife conflict are important issues for local administration.
