Mumbai Suburban (मुंबई उपनगर) is a district in Maharashtra, India, covering much of Mumbai’s suburban area north of the island city. Its administrative headquarters is in Bandra. Known for dense residential neighbourhoods, business centres and film-industry activity, it forms a major part of the Mumbai metropolitan region.
The district includes Bandra, Andheri, Borivali and Kurla, among other localities. Its multilingual population reflects migration from across India, with Marathi central to local cultural life. Finance, entertainment, technology, retail and services support the economy. Notable places include Juhu Beach, the Bandra seafront, Film City and much of Sanjay Gandhi National Park. Suburban trains and expanding metro services connect homes and workplaces.
Residents commonly focus on affordable housing, crowded transport, road maintenance and reliable water supply. Monsoon flooding, drainage, waste management and air quality are recurring concerns. Redevelopment, informal-settlement services, protection of mangroves and public access to open spaces also shape civic debate.
