Mewat, officially called Nuh district (नूंह), lies in southern Haryana, India, adjoining Rajasthan and within the National Capital Region. Its headquarters is Nuh town. The district forms part of the wider historical Mewat region and is known for its Meo community, rural landscape and stretches of the Aravalli hills.
Meo Muslims make up a large share of the population, alongside Hindu and other communities. Mewati speech, regional traditions and village networks shape local life. Agriculture, livestock rearing, small businesses and wage employment support livelihoods. Notable heritage sites include the Chui Mai pond and its chhatri in Nuh, and historic monuments around Ferozepur Jhirka.
Common civic concerns include reliable drinking water, groundwater depletion, school access, healthcare and employment opportunities, especially for young people and women. Residents also care about roads, sanitation, public transport and access to government services. Protecting the Aravalli environment and maintaining communal harmony are important local priorities.
