Mandla (मंडला) is a district in eastern Madhya Pradesh, India, with its headquarters in Mandla town. Set among the wooded hills of the Satpura region, it is closely associated with the Narmada River and the forest landscapes around Kanha National Park. Agriculture, forests and wildlife tourism shape much of its identity.
The district has a substantial tribal population, including Gond and Baiga communities, whose traditions contribute to its festivals, crafts and cultural life. Hindi and local languages are used across its towns and villages. Farming, forest produce, small trade and tourism support livelihoods. Notable places include Ramnagar’s Gond-era heritage structures, riverside temples and ghats, and Kanha’s wildlife habitats.
Common civic concerns include reliable drinking water, road connectivity, healthcare and access to education in remote settlements. Residents also care about irrigation, farm incomes, employment and forest rights. Conservation, tourism benefits and protecting the Narmada are important alongside improving everyday public services.
