Mahisagar (મહીસાગર) is a district in eastern Gujarat, India, with its administrative headquarters at Lunawada. Created in 2013 from parts of Panchmahal and Kheda districts, it takes its name from the Mahi River. The district is known for its river landscapes, agricultural countryside and historic settlements.
Gujarati is widely spoken, and tribal communities form an important part of the district’s population and cultural life. Farming, livestock rearing, small businesses and local trade support livelihoods. Festivals, village fairs and religious gatherings bring communities together. Notable places include the Kadana Dam on the Mahi River and the historic temple complex at Kaleshwari, while Lunawada serves as an administrative and commercial centre.
Common civic concerns include reliable drinking water, irrigation, road maintenance and public transport between villages and towns. Access to schools, healthcare and employment also matters, particularly in rural and tribal areas. Water management, sanitation and the upkeep of local heritage sites are other relevant public priorities.
