Longding (लॉंगडिंग) is a district in southeastern Arunachal Pradesh, India, bordering Myanmar and the Indian states of Assam and Nagaland. Its headquarters is Longding town. Known for its forested hills and Wancho cultural heritage, the district was formed from part of Tirap district in 2012.
The Wancho community is central to local life, with traditions of woodcarving, beadwork, dance and communal celebration. Oriah is an important festival associated with agriculture and community ties. Farming, including shifting cultivation, supports many households, alongside small trade and government employment. Traditional villages, community spaces and hill landscapes are distinctive features of the district.
Common civic concerns include reliable roads, access to healthcare and education, drinking water, electricity and mobile connectivity. Residents also have a stake in livelihood opportunities for young people, better market access for farm produce, and forest conservation. Its border location makes security and the smooth delivery of public services important local issues.
