Lawngtlai is a district in southern Mizoram, India, bordering Bangladesh to the west and Myanmar to the east. Its headquarters is Lawngtlai town. Known for its wooded hills, river valleys and cultural diversity, the district includes areas administered by the Lai and Chakma autonomous district councils.
Lai and Chakma communities are central to local life, alongside other groups. Languages, festivals and religious traditions reflect this diversity, with Christianity and Buddhism both prominent. Agriculture, including rice cultivation and horticulture, supports many households, while trade and public services contribute to the economy. Notable places include the Sinemon Wildlife Sanctuary and the border settlement of Zorinpui, associated with the Kaladan connectivity project.
Common civic concerns include reliable roads, access to healthcare and schools, drinking water and electricity. Heavy seasonal rainfall can disrupt travel and damage infrastructure. Residents also have a stake in agricultural livelihoods, forest conservation, employment opportunities and the delivery of services across remote villages.
