Kulgam (कुलगाम) is a district in the southern part of the Kashmir Valley, in the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir, India. Its headquarters is Kulgam town. The district is known for apple orchards, rice cultivation and landscapes that stretch from settled valley areas towards the Pir Panjal mountains.
Kashmiri is widely spoken, and local life reflects the valley’s traditions of hospitality, food, crafts and religious observance. Agriculture and horticulture support many households, alongside trade, public services and small businesses. Aharbal waterfall, on the Vishow River, is a prominent natural landmark and visitor destination. Villages and market towns connect farming communities with regional markets.
Common civic concerns include reliable roads, electricity, drinking water, healthcare and education. Orchard growers depend on irrigation, transport and access to markets and storage. Employment opportunities for young people, waste management, winter preparedness and protection of rivers and forests also matter, alongside public safety and responsive administration.
