Koppal (ಕೊಪ್ಪಳ) is a district in northern Karnataka, India, with its administrative headquarters in Koppal town. It is known for its historic temples, dryland farming landscapes and links to the wider Vijayanagara heritage region. The Tungabhadra River and irrigation infrastructure are important to parts of the district.
Kannada is the principal language, and local life reflects the traditions of northern Karnataka through festivals, religious gatherings and regional food. Agriculture supports many households, with paddy grown in irrigated areas and crops such as pulses and oilseeds elsewhere. Trade and industry also contribute to livelihoods. Notable landmarks include the Mahadeva Temple at Itagi, Koppal Fort and the historic sites around Anegundi.
Common civic concerns include reliable drinking water, irrigation access, road maintenance and public transport. Residents also care about healthcare, school quality, employment opportunities and sanitation. Managing drought risks, industrial pollution and the pressures of tourism while protecting heritage sites are important local priorities.
