Kondagaon (कोंडागाँव) is a district in the Bastar region of southern Chhattisgarh, India, with its headquarters in Kondagaon town. Formed from Bastar district in 2012, it is known for its forested landscapes, Adivasi heritage and traditional metal crafts, especially bell-metal work made using the lost-wax technique.
Adivasi communities are central to the district’s social and cultural life, reflected in local festivals, markets, music and dance. Farming, forest produce, handicrafts and small-scale trade support livelihoods. Kondagaon’s craft workshops and nearby artisan settlements are important cultural attractions, while village markets connect rural producers with buyers. Forests and rural landscapes shape much of the district’s character.
Common civic concerns include reliable roads and transport, drinking water, healthcare and access to education in dispersed settlements. Residents also care about agricultural support, fair prices for forest produce, artisan incomes and employment opportunities. Forest rights, conservation and the quality of basic public services are significant local issues.
