Jhalawar (झालावाड़) is a district in southeastern Rajasthan, India, bordering Madhya Pradesh. Part of the Hadoti region, it is known for its relatively green landscapes, agricultural countryside and historic sites. Jhalawar city is the district headquarters, while nearby Jhalrapatan is an important historic town.
Residents speak Hindi and regional varieties such as Hadoti, and local culture reflects links with both Rajasthan and neighbouring Malwa. Agriculture supports much of the economy, with crops including soybean, wheat and coriander, alongside citrus cultivation. Markets, trade and services connect towns with surrounding villages. Notable landmarks include Gagron Fort, part of UNESCO’s Hill Forts of Rajasthan listing, and the historic temples of Jhalrapatan.
Common civic concerns include reliable drinking water, irrigation, road maintenance and access to healthcare and education. Farmers also care about crop prices, weather risks and market access. In growing towns, drainage, waste collection, employment opportunities and heritage conservation are recurring priorities.
