Jhabua (झाबुआ) is a district in western Madhya Pradesh, India, bordering Gujarat and Rajasthan. Its administrative headquarters is Jhabua town. Known for its substantial tribal population, especially Bhil and Bhilala communities, the district has a largely rural landscape of low hills, villages and farmland.
Local culture is expressed through music, dance, traditional ornaments and seasonal gatherings such as Bhagoria, held before Holi. Farming, livestock rearing, small businesses and wage labour support livelihoods, while seasonal migration provides income for many households. Maize and pulses are among the crops grown here. Deojhiri, near Jhabua town, is a locally significant religious site associated with a Shiva temple and a natural spring.
Common civic concerns include reliable drinking water, irrigation, road connectivity and access to healthcare and education in dispersed settlements. Residents also care about employment, support for migrant workers, nutrition, tribal rights and effective delivery of public services. Soil and water conservation are important to agricultural resilience.
