Jashpur (जशपुर) is a district in northeastern Chhattisgarh, bordering Jharkhand and Odisha. Its headquarters is Jashpur Nagar. Known for forested hills, plateaus and waterfalls, the district includes upland areas locally called Pat. Its landscape supports farming, forest-based livelihoods and nature tourism.
The district has a substantial Adivasi population, including Oraon and Kanwar communities. Local languages, seasonal festivals, music and dance reflect its cultural diversity. Agriculture, particularly rice cultivation, is central to the economy, alongside forest produce, small businesses and public services. Christianity and other religious traditions are part of local community life. Kunkuri’s cathedral is a prominent landmark, while natural attractions include the Kailash Gufa area and Rani Dah waterfall.
Common civic concerns include reliable roads and transport, accessible healthcare, school facilities and drinking water. Residents also care about agricultural support, employment opportunities, forest rights and land security. Balancing infrastructure development with forest conservation is an important local issue.
