Jagatsinghapur (ଜଗତସିଂହପୁର) is a coastal district in eastern Odisha, India, along the Bay of Bengal. Its headquarters is Jagatsinghpur town. The district is known for its fertile delta landscape, farming communities and Paradip, a major seaport that connects the region to national and international trade.
Odia is the main language, and local life reflects Odisha’s traditions of festivals, temple worship, crafts and coastal food. Agriculture, fishing, port activities and industries support livelihoods. Paddy cultivation is important in rural areas, while Paradip is a centre for shipping, logistics and industrial employment. Notable places include the Sarala Temple at Jhankad and the district’s coastline and river landscapes.
Common civic concerns include cyclone preparedness, flooding, coastal erosion and reliable drainage. Residents also care about safe drinking water, roads, healthcare, schools and employment opportunities. Industrial pollution, fishing livelihoods, land use and balancing economic growth with environmental protection are recurring issues, especially around the port and industrial areas.
