Imphal East (পূর্ব ইম্ফল) is a district in Manipur, northeastern India, covering the eastern side of the Imphal urban area and surrounding valley settlements. Its administrative headquarters is at Porompat. The district is known for its agricultural landscape, historic sites and close links to the state capital.
Meitei communities form a major part of its population, alongside Meitei Pangal and other communities. Manipuri language, dance, sports and festivals shape local life. Rice farming, trade, small businesses and public services support livelihoods. Notable places include Shree Shree Govindajee Temple, associated with Manipur’s royal and religious heritage, and the sacred hill of Kaina.
Residents commonly care about reliable water supplies, drainage, flood protection, road maintenance and waste management. Access to healthcare, education and employment is also important. Recent conflict in Manipur has made public safety, support for displaced families, social trust and the restoration of everyday services pressing civic concerns.
