Haveri (ಹಾವೇರಿ) is a district in central Karnataka, India, with its administrative headquarters in Haveri town. It lies between the northern plains and the greener Malnad region. The district is known for agriculture, the Byadgi chilli trade, and a rich literary and religious heritage.
Kannada is the main language of everyday life. Farming, agricultural markets, small businesses and processing industries support the economy, with crops including maize, cotton and chillies. Byadgi is a prominent chilli trading centre, while Ranebennur is another important commercial town. Notable landmarks include the Siddheshwara Temple in Haveri and the Tarakeshwara Temple at Hangal. Kaginele is closely associated with the poet-saint Kanakadasa.
Common civic concerns include reliable irrigation, drinking water, farm prices and access to markets. Residents also care about road maintenance, public transport, healthcare, education and employment opportunities. In growing towns, drainage, waste collection and orderly development are recurring priorities, alongside protecting historic sites and local water bodies.
