Gondia (गोंदिया) is a district in eastern Maharashtra, bordering Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. Its headquarters is Gondia city, an important railway junction. The district is known for rice cultivation and milling, forest landscapes, and wildlife habitats around the Navegaon–Nagzira Tiger Reserve.
Marathi is widely spoken, alongside Hindi and languages used by tribal communities, including Gondi. Farming, agricultural trade, rice mills and forest-based livelihoods support much of the economy. Local markets, festivals and village traditions reflect the district’s cultural diversity. Navegaon National Park, Nagzira Wildlife Sanctuary and Itiadoh reservoir are notable natural and recreational landmarks.
Common civic concerns include reliable irrigation, fair crop prices, rural roads, drinking water and access to healthcare and education. Residents also care about employment opportunities and dependable public transport, especially in outlying villages. Forest conservation, human–wildlife conflict and balancing tourism with local livelihoods are important issues in communities near protected areas.
