Churu (चूरू) is a district in northern Rajasthan, India, on the edge of the Thar Desert and within the Shekhawati region. Its headquarters is Churu city. The district is known for sandy landscapes, extreme summer and winter temperatures, and historic towns with elaborately painted merchant havelis.
Residents speak Hindi and local Rajasthani varieties, and everyday culture reflects desert traditions, folk music, festivals and regional food. Agriculture, livestock rearing, trade and services support livelihoods, while migration for work also shapes family economies. Notable attractions include Tal Chhapar Sanctuary, known for blackbuck and grassland birds, and the religious centres of Salasar Balaji and Dadi Sati in Ratangarh.
Common civic concerns include reliable drinking water, groundwater stress, drought resilience and support for farmers and livestock keepers. Residents also care about road maintenance, sanitation, healthcare access, education and local employment. Protecting heritage buildings and managing tourism alongside everyday public services are important local priorities.
