Chittorgarh (चित्तौड़गढ़) is a district in southern Rajasthan, India, with its administrative headquarters in Chittorgarh city. It is best known for Chittorgarh Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site included among the Hill Forts of Rajasthan. The district has deep connections with the history of Mewar and its Rajput rulers.
Hindi and Mewari are widely spoken, and local culture reflects Mewar’s traditions through festivals, folk music and crafts. Agriculture, trade, cement production and other mineral-based industries support the economy, while heritage tourism brings visitors and livelihoods. Within the fort, Vijay Stambh, Kirti Stambh, temples and palace remains are prominent landmarks. Stories associated with figures such as Maharana Pratap and Mirabai shape the district’s cultural identity.
Common civic concerns include reliable drinking water, irrigation, road maintenance, sanitation and access to healthcare and education. Industrial pollution, employment opportunities and balancing heritage conservation with tourism and urban growth are also important local topics.
