Chittoor (చిత్తూరు) is a district in southern Andhra Pradesh, India, bordering Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. Its administrative headquarters is Chittoor city. The district is known for mango cultivation, agriculture and its position along routes linking southern Indian towns and cities. Its boundaries changed during Andhra Pradesh’s district reorganisation in 2022.
Telugu is the main language, with Tamil also spoken in communities near the state border. Local culture reflects these connections through food, festivals and everyday trade. Farming, dairy production, fruit processing and commerce support livelihoods. Kanipakam’s Varasiddhi Vinayaka Temple is a prominent religious landmark, while Chandragiri Fort reflects the region’s historical importance.
Common civic concerns include reliable drinking water, irrigation, road maintenance and access to healthcare and education. Farmers care about crop prices, market access and storage facilities, especially for perishable produce. Residents also look for better public transport, sanitation, employment opportunities and effective delivery of government services across both towns and rural settlements.
