Buldhana (बुलढाणा) is a district in western Vidarbha, Maharashtra, India, with its administrative headquarters in Buldhana city. It is known for the Lonar crater lake, formed by a meteorite impact in basalt rock, and for Shegaon, a major pilgrimage destination associated with Sant Gajanan Maharaj.
Marathi is the main language, and the district’s towns and villages reflect the agricultural traditions of Vidarbha. Farming supports much of the economy, with cotton, soybean and pulses among the important crops. Trade, agricultural processing and pilgrimage-related services also provide livelihoods. Notable landmarks include Sindkhed Raja, associated with the birth of Jijabai, mother of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, and the temples around Lonar.
Common civic concerns include reliable irrigation and drinking water, farm incomes, road maintenance, healthcare and educational access. Residents also have a stake in sanitation, employment opportunities and dependable public services. Protecting Lonar’s distinctive environment while managing tourism is another important local issue.
