Budgam (बडगाम) is a district in the Kashmir Valley of Jammu and Kashmir, India, west and southwest of Srinagar. Its landscape stretches from cultivated valley plains to forested slopes and mountain meadows. The district is known for its rural scenery, traditional crafts and destinations such as Doodhpathri and Yusmarg.
Kashmiri language and traditions shape everyday life, with Muslim communities forming most of the population. Agriculture, horticulture, handicrafts, trade and services support livelihoods. Artisans produce textiles and other traditional goods, while tourism contributes to local businesses. Charar-e-Sharief, associated with the revered Kashmiri saint Sheikh Noor-ud-din Noorani, is an important religious and cultural landmark.
Common civic concerns include reliable drinking water and electricity, road maintenance, public transport, healthcare and access to education. Residents also care about employment opportunities, support for farmers and artisans, and transparent public services. Managing waste, protecting forests and streams, and balancing tourism with local needs are important district-wide priorities.
