Bilaspur (बिलासपुर) is a district in southwestern Himachal Pradesh, India, with its headquarters in Bilaspur town. It is known for Gobind Sagar, the reservoir created by the Bhakra Dam on the Sutlej River. The old Bilaspur town was submerged as the reservoir filled, and the present town developed nearby.
Residents include rural farming communities and people working in services, trade, transport and tourism. Hindi and local Pahari varieties are widely spoken, while festivals, temple traditions and village fairs shape cultural life. Agriculture, livestock rearing and reservoir fisheries support livelihoods. Notable landmarks include Shri Naina Devi Ji Temple and the Bhakra Dam, while AIIMS Bilaspur is an important healthcare and educational institution.
Common civic concerns include reliable drinking water, road maintenance, public transport and access to healthcare and education. Residents also care about employment, waste management, reservoir-related livelihoods and the long-term effects of displacement. Hill-road safety and preparedness for heavy rain remain important local issues.
