Balod (बालोद) is a district in central Chhattisgarh, India, with its administrative headquarters in Balod town. Created from Durg district in 2012, it is known for rice farming, reservoirs and the iron ore mining belt around Dalli-Rajhara. Its landscape includes agricultural plains, villages and forested areas.
Chhattisgarhi and Hindi are widely spoken, and local life reflects farming traditions, Adivasi heritage and regional festivals. Agriculture, mining, small businesses and public services support livelihoods. Dalli-Rajhara’s mines have long supplied the Bhilai Steel Plant. Notable places include Tandula reservoir, the Siya Devi temple area and the Ganga Maiya temple at Jhalmala, which draw visitors and pilgrims.
Common civic concerns include reliable irrigation, drinking water, road maintenance, healthcare and access to education. Residents also care about farm incomes, employment opportunities and transport links between villages and towns. In mining areas, worker welfare, environmental protection and economic prospects as mining activity changes are important public issues.
