Ashoknagar (अशोकनगर) is a district in northern Madhya Pradesh, India, with its headquarters in Ashoknagar town. Part of the Gwalior division, it was formed from Guna district in 2003. The district is known for its agricultural landscape, historic sites and the textile traditions of Chanderi.
People live in market towns and farming villages, with Hindi widely spoken alongside regional varieties of Bundeli. Agriculture, trade and weaving support local livelihoods; wheat, soybean and pulses are important crops. Chanderi is celebrated for its finely woven saris, fort and historic monuments. Anandpur and the ancient Jain temples at Thubon are notable religious destinations.
Common civic concerns include reliable drinking water, irrigation, road maintenance and access to healthcare and education across rural areas. Farmers depend on timely agricultural services and market access, while weaving communities benefit from skills support and fair trading opportunities. Sanitation, employment and balancing heritage conservation with tourism are also relevant local priorities.
