Aravalli (અરવલ્લી) is a district in northeastern Gujarat, India, bordering Rajasthan. Its administrative headquarters is Modasa. Created from Sabarkantha district in 2013, it takes its name from the Aravalli hill range. The district is known for its hilly landscapes, farming communities and religious heritage, including the Shamlaji temple, an important pilgrimage destination.
Gujarati is widely spoken, and tribal communities contribute to the district’s cultural life. Agriculture, livestock rearing, local trade and services support livelihoods, while Modasa serves as a centre for education, healthcare and commerce. Village fairs, religious festivals and markets bring communities together. Shamlaji’s temple complex and the surrounding countryside are notable landmarks.
Common civic concerns include reliable drinking water, irrigation, road maintenance and public transport between villages and towns. Residents also care about access to schools and healthcare, employment opportunities for young people, and support for farmers. Sanitation, waste management and balancing development with protection of local landscapes are continuing priorities.
