Anand (આણંદ) is a district in central Gujarat, India, between Ahmedabad and Vadodara. Its headquarters is Anand city. The district is best known for Amul and the dairy cooperative movement, which helped shape India’s White Revolution. It forms part of the fertile Charotar region.
Gujarati is widely spoken, and local life blends farming traditions, cooperative enterprise and educational activity. Dairy farming, agriculture, food processing and trade support the economy. Navratri celebrations and garba are prominent cultural traditions. Notable places include the educational institutions of Vallabh Vidyanagar, the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel memorial at Karamsad, and the historic town of Khambhat, known for agate craftsmanship.
Common civic concerns include reliable water supplies, drainage, waste management and road maintenance. Residents also care about public transport, access to healthcare and education, and opportunities for young people. Farmers and dairy producers have a stake in irrigation, livestock services, fair returns and the functioning of cooperatives.
