Amreli (અમરેલી) is a district in Gujarat’s Saurashtra region, with its administrative headquarters in Amreli city. Extending south to the Arabian Sea, it is known for farming, coastal commerce and landscapes connected to the wider Gir region, where Asiatic lions also roam outside protected forests.
Gujarati is the main language, and local life reflects Saurashtra’s traditions of folk music, festivals and religious gatherings. Agriculture, dairying, fishing and trade support livelihoods, while Pipavav port and nearby industries contribute to the coastal economy. Groundnut and cotton are important crops. Notable places include the coastal town of Jafrabad and the historic temples at Dhari and elsewhere across the district.
Common civic concerns include reliable drinking water, irrigation, groundwater management and support for farmers facing variable rainfall. Residents also care about roads, healthcare, education and employment opportunities. Along the coast, fishing livelihoods, industrial development and environmental protection matter, while lion conservation and human–wildlife coexistence are important inland.
