Alirajpur (अलीराजपुर) is a district in western Madhya Pradesh, India, bordering Gujarat and Maharashtra. Its headquarters is Alirajpur town. Created from Jhabua district in 2008, it is known for its predominantly tribal population, hilly countryside and strong indigenous cultural traditions.
Bhil and Bhilala communities are central to the district’s social and cultural life. Bhagoria celebrations, local markets, music and dance bring communities together. Agriculture, livestock rearing, small trade and seasonal migration support many households. The area around Jobat is associated with Bhilala Pithora painting, while Bhabra, also known as Chandrashekhar Azad Nagar, is remembered as the birthplace of freedom fighter Chandrashekhar Azad.
Common civic concerns include reliable drinking water, irrigation, road connectivity and access to healthcare and education in remote villages. Residents also care about employment opportunities, forest and land rights, and effective delivery of public services. Supporting tribal languages and cultural heritage alongside better infrastructure is an important local priority.
