Ajman is one of the seven emirates of the United Arab Emirates, located on the Arabian Gulf coast beside Sharjah. The smallest emirate by area, it includes the inland enclaves of Manama and Masfout. It is known for its beaches, waterfront, maritime heritage and growing residential districts.
Emirati traditions coexist with the cultures of a large expatriate population. Trade, manufacturing, construction, tourism and services support the economy, with Ajman Port and Ajman Free Zone serving business activity. Fishing and dhow building remain important parts of its heritage. Notable places include Ajman Museum, housed in a historic fort, and the Corniche, a popular waterfront destination.
Common civic concerns include housing affordability, traffic congestion, road safety and transport connections to neighbouring emirates. Residents also have a stake in reliable utilities, drainage, waste management, accessible healthcare and education, and well-maintained public spaces. Coastal protection and balancing development with heritage conservation are further local priorities.
