Ahmednagar (अहमदनगर), officially renamed Ahilyanagar, is a district in western Maharashtra, India. Much of it lies on the Deccan plateau, with farming areas shaped by river valleys and a generally dry climate. It is known for its historic forts, pilgrimage centres and strong cooperative sugar sector.
Marathi is the main language, and local life reflects rural traditions, religious festivals and growing urban connections. Farming, dairying, sugar processing, trade and services support the economy. Notable landmarks include Ahmednagar Fort, the Sai Baba shrine at Shirdi and the Shani temple at Shani Shingnapur. The district also has important links to the history of the Deccan sultanates.
Water availability is a recurring civic concern, including drought preparedness, irrigation access and drinking-water supply. Residents also care about farm incomes, employment, roads, public transport, schools and healthcare. In towns and pilgrimage centres, sanitation, waste management, traffic and services for visitors are important local priorities.
